MSHA Part 46 New Miner Training

Contractors working at surface mine sites are considered miners, and as such, must comply with the safety and health regulations of both the Federal Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and, in Virginia, the Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy, Division of Mineral Mines (DMM).

  • Develop a company-specific MSHA Part 46 Training Plan
  • Conduct an 8-hour MSHA New Miner/Virginia DMM GMM training class
  • Provide Virginia DMM GMM cards to new miners successfully completing the new miner training
  • Provide the remainder of the required 24 hours of safety and health training through combinations of other Circle S&H classes such as OSHA 10-Hour and First Aid/CPR/AED training
  • Provide the required 8-hour MSHA Annual Refresher Training
  • Update your MSHA Part 46 Training Plan

MSHA Part 46 Annual Refresher Training

Federal law also requires all miners receive basic and annual refresher training, and mine operators maintain an effective training plan.  This is an 8-hour class and may cover a wide variety of specific safety topics.  This class is typically customized to the needs and priorities of the customer.
