Scaffold Safety for Designated Competent Persons

Online Training Now Available!

Want to take your training at your own pace? Our online training gives you the flexibility to get your certificate of completion when it best fits your schedule.

This course provides the necessary hands-on training and knowledge base needed by employees who are designated to perform Competent Person tasks involving erection, use, alteration, dismantling and inspection of various forms of scaffolding systems. Other employees who work on or near scaffolding systems and personnel hoists but are not the designated Competent Person will also benefit from this class.

Emphasis will be placed on the three common types of scaffolding – supported scaffolds, suspended scaffolds and aerial lifts that are regulated under the most recent OSHA/VOSH standard (Construction Subpart L). If available, scaffold manufacturer technical data and safety rules will be used. The day-long program includes review of site-specific scaffold, fall protection and emergency planning rules. Classroom training includes multi-media presentations, group activities, fall protection equipment inspections and pre- and post-class testing.

A hands-on safety audit of the employers’ erected scaffolding will be incorporated, if one is set up. Helpful checklists, copies of applicable OSHA standards and resource handouts are provided. This course can be made site-specific and shortened or lengthen to suit the needs of the students. Completion cards are provided for each student and the employer receives a certification of training letter.
